My Handmade Wardrobe
Branding & Print Design
The Client
Crafty Sew & So is a Leicester based workshop space and haberdashery shop owned by Freya and Sarah. As well as offering a wide range of crafty opportunities and sewing equipment and fabrics, they wanted to develop their own pattern range called My Handmade Patterns.
The Handmade Wardrobe Patterns range allows people to create comfortable and stylish everyday essentials that are practical, modern, and well-fitted, and express their own style. The product features in-depth instructions and patterns, step-by-step photographs and diagrams, as well as easy to follow sewing technique tips and guides.
The Brief
The new product is a fantastic addition and offers a fresh and modern approach in comparison to some of the older brands already on the market. But in order for them to fulfil their products potential it needed a strong brand identity to achieve optimal brand positioning.
The Creative Process
I started the process with a workshop and worked with Sarah to identify key messaging and strategies, before moving onto research and competitor analysis, and then initial concepts and styling.
As part of the brand development, I needed to create the ‘face’ – the logo. I used my research results and workshop discussion to produce a range of different options that captured different elements of the brand identity. These included handcrafted, modern, bold, feminine and minimal and simple design elements. We finally settled on a simple hexagon-based design, which represents the pattern template of the product.
Once the logo was finalised, the packaging and marketing materials were created, using the same design principles established with the logo identity. The new packaging design is based on a tessellating pattern that represents the pattern aspect of the product. It is fresh and fun and can easily be adapted for future ranges. The colour and style are very different from anything else currently on the market, and it has attracted positive feedback from consumers.
